Socket Weld Pipe Flanges are the flanges with seat to weld are those in which the tube is inserted until it makes contact with the seat that has the same internal diameter as the tube, thus leaving a smooth conduit without cavities. The fixing of the flange to the tube is done by practicing a weld bead around the hub.
WS Flange is designed for small diameter and high pressure applications provided that an internal and external double weld is made. It is similar to the weld-on flange when it comes to manufacturing, but has better fatigue resistance when installed with an internal weld. Unlike the press-in flange, abrasion of the internal weld to obtain a smooth appearance can be carried out without affecting the face of the flange, and therefore does not require subsequent surfacing. If only external welding is carried out, this flange must be reserved for low pressure applications. It is not authorized beyond Class 1500 by standard B16.5.
